About Ninja(occupation)

The Ninga, a specialy trained gourp of spies and mercenaries apeared in the Sengoku or Warring States period in the 15the century.  In the unrest of the Sengoku period, hire of mercenaries and spies became active in the Iga province and area around the village of Koga.   Ninja were trained to be particulary secretive about their actions and existence.

The ninja were stealth soldiers and mercenaries hired mostly by daimyo, or fudal road.Their primary roles were those of espionage and sabotage, although assassinations were also attributed to ninja. In battle, the ninja could also be used to cause confusion amongst the enemy.

About Ninjutsu

They used special techniques called Ninjutsu.

NInjutsu were recorded in scrolls and its manuals are secretive.   They include methods of escape by starting a fire, climbing a tree and comouflaging oneself with in the foliage.

They clad in black and use Mizukumo to walk on the water.  They use sharp-star-shaped disces known as Shuriken and many other weapon.

ATools used for infiltration and espionage are some of the most abundant artifacts related to the ninja. Ropes and grappling hook were common. A collapsible ladder is often illustrated.  Spiked or hooked climbing gear worn on the hands and feet also doubled as weapons.  Other implements include chisels, hammers, drills and son forth.   

 

Where  do we see Ninja?

You cannot see any Ninja in contemporary Japan.  However,  you can enjoy plays featuring Ninja at Edo Wonderland in Nikko city, Tochigi prefecture and same kind of amusement partk alll over Japan.

Ninja character

Stories about the ninja are usually based on historical figures.Novels were written about the ninja, such as Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari which was also made into a kabuki play. Fictional figures such as Sarutobi Sasuke would eventually make way into comics and television, where they have come to enjoy a culture hero status outside of their original mediums.

Ninja appear in many forms of Japanese and Western popular media, including books,television, movies,video games(Tenchu, The Last Ninja, Shinobi etc..), anime(Naruto),and Western comic books (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
