If you are coming to Japan on trip in May, you are very lucky,  because we usually have fewer rains in May in an year (with exception of some areas)!

Here, the two tables show how shiny the month is.

You can see that in almost all areas we have the strongest sunshine and also have less rain during May.

  • Tokyo

Could you imagine how awful it is to use an umbrella, when you walked around Tokyo, the most populous city in Japan? It would be a bad memory as a trip in Tokyo.

However, you don’t need to worry about it in May!  Tokyo has the most beautiful weather in May.  Here, seeing the weather record of Tokyo in May of the last year, I’m sure it makes you to organize your trip in Tokyo in May!

  • Kyoto

Kyoto, the city with one of the most popular sightseeing spots, also has the nice weather during May. Usually most of the days in May was sunny, and 80% days were sunny in 2015. Come and enjoy going around the city in May! I strongly recommend it to you, because temples and shrines look more beautiful with sunshine and greenery!  

  • Hokkaido (Sapporo)

 Are you planning to travel in Hokkaido? You did a good choice! Hokkaido is located the north in Japan, and May is the month when spring arrives there. Weather is pretty nice, flowers bloom, and I’m sure you get lost in the magnificent views of Hokkaido!

As is the same with other areas in Japan, the weather is usually sunny in Hokkaido, and you have nothing to worry about rain.

  • Okinawa

If you have a trip to Okinawa, I have one thing to let you know. In the last half month in May, the rainy season called Tsuyu(梅雨) arrives there. Sunny days goes, cloudy days last, and you have drizzle during the season. It is better for you to take an umbrella always with you if you go sightseeing and stay outside for a long time.
