Real reason why Japanese language is difficult?

Recently many people learn Japanese language around the world.

But at the same time, Japanese language is known as one of most difficult language.

Actually, only Asian people use Kanji and it is hieroglyphic so, it is very difficult to understand and remember for most of people.

But, it is just beginning.  Well, what is most important point?

Ambiguous word and nuance

If you have tried to study Japanese, you already know Japanese language has many ambiguous word and nuance.

For example, person A and B waling about their job.

A ” How about your job?”

B “so so”

Here, B shows own situation “not bad but, not good” but if translated into Japanese, nuance would be more complicated.

If “so so” translated literally, it includes mean with condescension.

Because Japanese regards humility as a virtue.

Pronunciation called syllabic nasal and double consonant

Japanese language has unique pronunciation that caked syllabic nasal  (Hatsuonbin) and double consonant (Sokuonbin)

For example, syllabic nasal called (hatsuonbin) like “読んだ（よんだ: yonda) of “ん” means ” I already read)

Double consonant (sokuonbin)  like “買った（かった：katta) of ”っ”　(means ” I bought~) “切手(きって: kitte) of” っ”(means stamp)

Sometime, these pronunciation arenot exist in other country, so people can not say correctly particularly for  beginner.

Some sentence can not be translated correctly

Everyday, we Japanese say “Otsukaresama” “Shitsurei shimassita”  at office or school and “Itadakimasu” when we start eating.

Sometime Otsukaresama translated to “Thank you for your hard work” or “Have a nice evening” but these are not perfect translation.

It use when people finish job, training at club activity at school, and it contains mean of gratitude.

Shiturei shimasita likes ” Sorry for disturb you” but, it also not perfect translation,

Itadakimasu is one of unique phrase.  Sometimes, people eat meals alone, he/she say that one.

It include thank to producer of foods and myriads go gods.

Japanese language makes you interrupted, but if you know Japanese culture, and try to talk with Japanese people, you will be able to understand why Japanese has many unique phrase that can not be translated perfectly.

Most important thing is learning culture and history at the same time.
