Beauty like dream
–a nameless pond in Gifu-

Some call it the pond of Monet. It is the mysterious pond which makes people have illusions of dreaming. It is the nameless pond near Nemichi shrine in Seki city of Gifu prefecture and called the pond of Monet because of the picturesque landscape.
As they say, it is very similar to a one of series of “Water Lilies” by a painter Claude Monet.

Originally, it used to be the reservoir and a worker of a flower shop nearby the pond planted water lily when it was renovated 18 years ago. This incredible transparency is thanks to natural spring water and hard water which makes its surrounding difficult for microbes to grow.
Shades of Water Colour changes depended on how sun comes in and you can discover different tastes of the beauty whenever you go. I am sure that many people from the distance come here only to see the pond.

Nemichi shrine is located on a bit East from the 256th national road alongside Itadori River. It is not so far from Gifu city so it is good for a short trip.
You can buy many kinds of sets of flowers with reasonable prices in Flower Park Itadori next to the pond. By the way, as you guess, an owner of the park is the one who planted the water lily.

Sumata valley in Sizuoka prefecture is renown as the path for steam locomotives. The suspension bridge of dream across an artificial lake stemmed by Ozeki dam is 90 meters long, 8 meters high. Exciting quiver of the suspension bridge is really thrilling. At the same time, you are very impressed too because you can see the beautiful valley and enjoy variable landscape of the lake by seasons.
Contrast between deep green and blue of the lake is remarkable. The scenery from an observatory where you can visit after crossing the bridge is amazing. I recommend to enjoy not only the vibrant beauty in summer but also crimson foliage in autumn. You can find completely different landscape from the one in summer.
A reason why the surface of the lake shines with emerald green is the Tyndall phenomenon which means that particles in water reflect shines. It is the romantic bridge that some people say it will come true when you pray for the success of love in the middle of the bridge.

The suspension bridge of dream hangs. When you visit there in early morning, there are only few people and it makes the place more mystical. By the way, only 10 people allow to cross the bridge at the same time, so they form a queue during tourist season.
Oi river railway running alongside Oi River still operates steam locomotives everyday. It takes a hour and 20 minutes from Kanaya station to Senzu station, the terminal station. A trip by the steam locomotives running across the nature on retro seats is refreshing for even people who are not railway funs. When you go to the bridge for sightseeing, I recommend you the steam locomotives.
