Hi.

Which temples or shrines in Japan do you associate with autumn colour of leaves?

Maybe some famous temples, such as Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto, pop up into your mind.

However, there are many places that are not known as good spots for enjoying autumn leaves.

Today, I pick up one secret spot with beautiful autumn leaves: Shouji Temple(勝持寺)!

Located in Saikyo destrict (西京区), Shouji Temple belongs to Tendai sect (天台宗) of Buddhism.

It’s also known as a notable site for flowers in spring.

The temple has been loved by local people as it shows different beauty in different seasons.

Because the temple is not frequently picked up as a tourist destination in guide books, those in the know know the temple as a spot with seasonal beauty.

Historically, the temple was had been destroyed at the time of the Onin war (応仁の乱) in the mid-15th C.

The existing temple was re-built in 16th C.

It seems everywhere in the temple looks so beautiful, but especially, deep red leaves around Rurikoden (瑠璃光殿)and Kuri (庫裡) make you more amazed.
