What is Sweden Hills ?

Sweden Hills is a village located in Tobetsucho, Ishikarigun, Hokkaido. It is about 30～40minutes away from Sapporo by car or JR train. Only the Swedish houses, the North European model Swedish houses, stand in a row there. It’s , so to speak, like a replica town of Sweden. The roofs are the North European-style tiles, the outer walls are dark red. The structure of the Sweden House is a high insulation effectiveness. Besides, it is characteristic that electric cables and telephone wires are installed underground and there is no telegraph poles there.

It is said that they came to develop this area bonding over that a Swede said this village was similar to Stockholm suburb. The sale in lots of Sweden Hills has been begun from 1984.

The summer solstice festival is one of the events held in Northern Europe on the summer solstice, in June every year, and the traditional festival that people pray for the peace of the village. They celebrate the coming of summer ,after finishing a long winter. This festival is held grandly playing the instrument, singing, and performing a folk dance around a Maidstone.
